Moving moving moving...

Sunday, 31 January 2010

Sorry for the lack of posts this week... we have been madly packing up our lovely little turquoise flat... said teary goodbyes to our friends, family and fishies and are leaving to move back to Australia later today (with enough time for a few dumplings in Hong Kong on the way through!yipee) Really sad to leave such a beautiful bunch of people behind but excited for the next chapter too!
Anyway, enough sentimentality... will be back on friday from sunny Sydney with photos and exciting pictures to show. Have a lovely week!!

Blog World Wednesday > Unruly things

Thursday, 28 January 2010

I don't know how it's taken me so long to find Unruly Things and only just today have poured over it. I'm a huge fan of Postal Press and this is a behind the brains viewpoint... and how lovely a view it is too!!! Lots of good fashion finds but also (and best of all) paper and print design and font goodness and some postal press sneak peeks of course... go see for yourself...

Rob Ryan // new book

Friday, 22 January 2010

Rob Ryan (paper cut king) has another book out in conjunction with his Yorkshire Sculpture park exhibition. There are some great photos of behind the scenes work which were particularly intriguing... I never realised they were spray painted for a start! And the windows decals (each panel measuring 4.5 metres high by 1.9 metres wide) are incredible. He must have fingers made of feathers!
Available via etsy or in the UK here

Love letters

Hello hopeless romantics (that's me too)... Hello handmade paperie have come up with this beautiful way to send someone a love letter... hand written in stunning caligraphy and sealed with a waxy kiss! The Swallows are printed and then watercolour painted by hand... they're such beauties. In a time when post is far too infrequent for my liking anyway, these are the sweetest of little mailbox gems! the Exquisite Book project

Monday, 18 January 2010

This new book project from the mastermind of Julia Rothman and Also oozes exciting!! Basically it's a visual narrative much like consequences but based on a surrealist game called Exquisite corpse from the 1920s. Each artist sees only the illustration before it and it follows the horizon line to add to the pictorial story...

(Image above by Carmen Segovia)

The variety of amazing artists is going to make it so diverse and brilliant... and plus it's got an introduction by Dave Eggers. I really can't wait to see get my mitts on a copy when it comes out!

(Images above left to right by Mike Perry, Camilla Engman, Lab Partners, and Nick Dewar)

(Images above left to right by Ashley G, Mel Kadel, Peter Taylor with Luke Ramsey, Carmen Segovia, Roy Roberts)

It's explained fully on the website here and also on Julia's great site book by its cover

Corrupiola // notebooks

Saturday, 16 January 2010

I'd like to stuff my bag full of these cute notebooks from Corrupiola

Jessica Hische // Drop cap poster

Friday, 15 January 2010

Uh oh... this is bad news (in a good but dangerous/i'm not supposed to be spending any money kind of way)!! Jessica Hische is now selling her beautiful daily drop caps as a poster... and if thats too pricey you can get individual letters instead (or aswell?!)! How can I be expected to resist such treasures?!

September Issue // movie bliss

Wednesday, 13 January 2010

I finally got around to watching The September Issue last night and it wholeheartedly lived up to its hype (which was BIG in my head) and I never wanted it to end!! Though I had thought Anna Wintour would really be amazing, it was actually Creative Director Grace Coddington who really was the star for me. Every photo shoot she styled looked absolutely stunning & she has such amazing vision! It didn't make me want to work in the fashion industry but it was so inspiring (and made me want to wear more dresses!) I think I'm going to watch it again tonight!!

I especially loved this 1920s photoshoot by Steven Meisel... amazing hats!

Sweet Bestiary // Sculptures

Tuesday, 12 January 2010

The King is 75 today!

Friday, 8 January 2010

I love Elvis... If I had special powers to bring anyone back for one more hurrah it would be him! In honour of his birthday I found these beautiful photographs by Alfred Wertheimer of when Elvis was just a wee lad of 21... such a stylish fella!

Postcard sets

Postcards are the handiest little things ever... I have taken to using them lately instead of birthday cards of the envelope kind... they beautify even the most basic wrapping (and plus they're cheaper than cards) Here are a few good sets:

Yellow Owl Workshop are always making great things. The matchbox style packaging for these is especially good (plus they're all hand screenprinted)

A Studio Violet set of lovable little beings and dreamy colours (though it might be hard when it comes to giving these away)

Ashley G
makes these wistful nuggets of cosy creatures

Orange Beautiful notecards don't really classify as postcards I know, but I've always thought they were great.. and they do come in a set??

Vintage inspired ones for Bigwig & Silver are ace for boys especially (and girls tho)

p.s. always looking for more so please let me know any secret ones i've missed!
